Getting your iPad onto MHS-SECURE

Follow the steps in order. It takes about 20 minutes, and you only ever do it once.

Read this first. Part-way through, the Company Portal app can appear to get stuck in a loop. That is normal — step 12 tells you exactly what to do. Do not download the profile a second time when that happens.

Before you start, you need

Part A

Join the onboarding Wi-Fi

  1. 1Open Settings → Wi-Fi.
  2. 2Tap Michaelhouse. It is open — there is no password.
  3. 3Tap the next to Michaelhouse and turn Private Wi-Fi Address OFF.
  4. 4No sign-in page will pop up. That is correct — nothing is broken. Carry on.

You now have a limited connection: Apple, Microsoft and school services only — no general internet. That is deliberate; it exists so you can get set up.

Part B

Install the two apps

  1. 5Open the App Store and install Microsoft Authenticator. Install it only — you do not need to open it or sign into it.
  2. 6Then install Intune Company Portal.

Part C

Sign in and enrol

  1. 7Open Company Portal and sign in with your school account.
  2. 8You will be asked to sign in a second time, in Safari. This is normal — the app hands you to a website. Sign in again with the same account.
  3. 9Tap Get started and continue through the information screens. (You will not be asked who owns the iPad — the school's setup skips that question. If a future update ever does ask: I own this deviceSecure entire device.)
  4. 10When Safari offers a configuration profile, tap Allow to download it, then Close.
  5. 11Open Settings → tap Profile Downloaded near the top (can't see it? Settings → General → VPN & Device Management). Tap Management ProfileInstall, enter your passcode, Install again, then Trust, then Done.

⚠ Step 12 — if Company Portal now seems stuck in a loop

This happens often. Do this:

  1. aTap Postpone (not Continue). This takes you into the Company Portal app.
  2. bTap Get access.
  3. cBefore downloading anything, check whether the profile is already installed: Settings → General → VPN & Device Management. If Management Profile is listed there, it is already installed — do NOT download it again. Go back to Company Portal and continue.
  4. dOnly if there is no Management Profile listed should you download it again.

Why this matters: installing the profile twice registers your iPad twice. You then see extra devices listed, one with a long jumble of letters as its name. Tell IT if that happens — do not delete devices from the list yourself. Deleting the wrong one un-enrols your iPad and you start over.

  1. 13Follow the remaining steps to the end. Company Portal shows them as complete.
If you see "No compliance policies are assigned": tell IT — you should no longer see this. The Wi-Fi will still work, but school email and Teams may stop working later. Nothing you can fix yourself; report it.

Part D

Move onto MHS-SECURE

  1. 14Stay on Wi-Fi and wait up to 15 minutes. Your certificate and the MHS-SECURE settings arrive on their own — there is nothing to type and no password.
  2. 15Go to Settings → Wi-Fi and tap MHS-SECURE.
  3. 16Tap the next to MHS-SECURE and check Private Wi-Fi Address is OFF.
  4. 17Check that the internet works.
  5. 18Forget the onboarding network: Settings → Wi-Fi → next to MichaelhouseForget This Network. If you skip this, your iPad keeps drifting back to the limited network.
Done. Your iPad will join MHS-SECURE by itself from now on. You never need to do any of this again.

If something goes wrong

No sign-in page when joining Michaelhouse

Expected — there isn't one. Carry on to the App Store.

Can't sign into your Apple ID

Apple's sign-in takes a few minutes and several taps. Wait and retry; if it keeps failing, tell IT — don't keep retrying for long.

App Store won't load

Usually the Apple ID isn't signed in yet. Finish that first.

Asked to sign in twice

Expected — once in the app, once in Safari. Same school account both times.

Company Portal loops after installing the profile

Step 12. Postpone → Get access → check the profile isn't already installed.

Profile "did not load"

Check VPN & Device Management first. Only re-download if no Management Profile is listed.

Extra devices listed, one with a long jumbled name

Tell IT. Do not delete anything yourself.

"Device not compliant"

Usually no passcode. Turn the passcode on, then Company Portal → Check settings. You have roughly a day before it is marked.

Email/Teams refuse to sign in, but Wi-Fi works

Device rules, not the network. Check the passcode first, then Check settings; if it persists, IT.

MHS-SECURE never appears after 15 minutes

Stay on Wi-Fi (not mobile data), then Company Portal → Check status. Still nothing after 30 minutes → IT.

MHS-SECURE appears but won't join

Private Wi-Fi Address is ON — turn it OFF (steps 3 / 16).

Everything closed itself half-way

Left idle too long. Reopen Company Portal and start Part C again.

iPad keeps going back to Michaelhouse

You didn't forget the network — step 18.

Getting help: tell IT which step number you reached and exactly what appeared on screen. That is the fastest route to a fix.
